| “STARMUSE” CONCEPT DID NOT FAIL THE FANS OF ELECTRONIC SOUND |
|
American disk jockey, producer and remixer, Armand Van Helden, is known as one of the greatest performers and hitmakers on the global house music scene. He started deejaying very early, at 15, and during the nineties stepped into production. He gained wider popularity with his hit single “You Don’t Know Me” which he released in 1999 for the London label “FFRR”. Since then until today, Helden has signed a large number of remixes and author editions which conquered top charts around the world.
For a long number of years the recognizable concept of Heineken parties is present on the Serbian club scene, and provides spectacular music events to the audience. The new season of these parties started this year under the name of “StarMuse”. On Saturday May 1st 2010 at the Expo centre in Belgrade, Armand Van Helden performed as star of the evening and also opened up the “StarMuse” series. Serbian disk jockeys Alex Monster and Vladimir Erdber made the evening introduction with their minimal sets. Around midnight the known Brooklyn DJ and producer Todd Terry got behind the decks, the man responsible for raising the New York house sound to a higher level. The Belgrade audience also had the chance to see what kind of atmosphere this DJ can produce, whose set included tracks such as “Pacha On Acid” in Afrojack’s original mix and “Kim Fai – Good Life”. The audience was thrilled when Terry spun Avicii’s bootleg “Tocadisco vs. Chemical Brothers – Hey Morumbi”, but was also surprised when he played Helden’s “Funk Phenomena” in the 2009 Starkillers remix. After a two-hour quality set, Todd Terry gave the stand to Armand Van Helden, eagerly anticipated by fans. Some clubbers were nervous considering they did not expect that the star’s performance would begin until after 2 AM. During the performance Helden pulled a large number of good old tracks in their original mixes, such as “The Bucketheads – The Bomb”, “Tory Amos – Professional Widow” and “Final Edition – I Can Do It”. Fans of his production could also hear the hit singles that made him famous: “My My My”, “Je T’aime” and “I Want Your Soul”. The audience could hear novelties of global production, among which “One” originally performed by Swedish House Mafia. In the evening finale Belgrade back 2 back lineup “Ultimate Grooves” performed, made up of DJs Mirko & Meex. They opened their set with the track “Christian Alvarez – Hands In The Air” in The Good Guys remix, where tracks went on in their recognizable style, like “Weekend Heroes – Ne'x”.
Musically, a very good party one could say, staged in top form, but the overall atmosphere was filled with fatigue, whether because of May 1st barbeque during the day, or the large number of “stray” visitors to this event. Either way, “StarMuse” series of parties did not fail the fans of electronic sound. |
